If you have been injured due to the fault of another, whether it be a work-related accident, car accident, or other accident, you are obviously going to want to receive compensation for the injuries suffered. What most people don't realize is that this is a process simply because the insurance companies only look out for themselves, which means that they are going to offer you as little as they can in hopes that they can get away with it. However, there are a few other reasons insurance companies don't offer as much as you would've hoped for. Here are three reasons why:

  1. They Know the Case is Not Worth It: If you have only suffered a minor injury, the insurance company is going to offer you very little. To the advice of your lawyer, you might just want to accept the offer that they make you because the amount you can make won't be worth it to also cover the costs of potentially going to trail. Of course, you should talk to your lawyer first before accepting any offer to ensure that it's the right decision for your case specifically.
  2. You've Talked to the Insurance Agent too Soon: Another reason could be that you talked to the insurance agent too soon. Many times, after you have filed a claim, the insurance adjuster will contact you almost immediately. When this happens, they hope that you will start talking freely about the case before you understand the full extent of your injuries. This often leads to the insurance companies being able to note that the injuries are not entirely too bad, which leads them to providing you with a really low settlement offer.
  3. Not Hiring the Help of a Lawyer: Another problem that people run into too often is that they attempt to handle the case without the help of a lawyer. When this happens, they more often than not fall into the trap of the insurance companies without realizing it. Basically, you provide information that can be held against you, and thus make you unable to get an offer that you believe to be fair. Working with a personal injury lawyer is the best way to understand your full rights, determine the full amount of compensation that is deserved, and know when it is and when it is not okay to speak with an insurance adjuster.

These are the three biggest reasons insurance companies offer you way too little for your injuries, when in reality you deserve much more.
